AEP: Learning from Light Initiative

Another unique feature of the Learning from Light Initiative is that AEP, unlike other utility partners around the US, has been willing to help support solar school projects outside of its service territory and even outside the United States. There are Learning from Light Schools in Alameda, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and in Por Venir, Bolivia, London, England, the Galapagos Islands, and New Guinea. AEP even donated solar panels for a project at a YMCA Camp in New Jersey. AEP believes in helping teachers and schools with better tools for improving math and science test scores throughout its service territory, but AEP has gone much further in helping schools that wanted to join the Learning from Light Initiative. The Learning from Light Initiative is also about team building. In each project, the school, local government, local media, state government, the US Dept of Energy, the local electricity provider, at least one non-profit and interested parents and community members all pitch in to make their local project successful.
